What is Luma?
Luma is an event registration and community platform founded by Danqing (Dan) Liu and Victor Pontis. It began as a way to help a friend solve the problem of registering for online yoga classes.
When you open a Luma event link, you’ll see the event page and registration form. For some events, you must wait for the organizer’s approval before receiving a confirmation email. The email includes a calendar invitation. To keep up with an organizer’s future events, you can also subscribe to their Luma calendar. Luma offers a range of event page themes and cover templates, some with animation. Organizers can also review registrations and send newsletters to calendar members who have agreed to receive updates. Newsletter limits depend on the plan and calendar verification status, and the calendar must be verified first.
How to register for a Luma event
- Open the event link and check the time, location, and event details.
- Fill out the registration form. Some events require organizer approval.
- After approval, you’ll receive a confirmation email and can add the event to your calendar.
- Some events let you connect a wallet during registration to verify token or NFT ownership, or to let the organizer collect and verify your Ethereum or Solana wallet address. This is not how you sign in to a Luma account.
Luma’s Web3 features: wallet connections and token gating
Luma offers token gating, wallet address collection, and paid tickets using cryptocurrency on Solana. Organizers can enable token gating in the event settings, requiring attendees to connect a wallet and verify that they hold specific ERC-20 tokens or ERC-721 NFTs. Some ticket types can have no eligibility requirement. For payments, Luma supports SOL and USDC ticket payments on Solana. Organizers must complete identity verification and connect a supported Solana wallet. Crypto payments have a separate fee structure, with a 3% platform fee listed by Luma. This fee is separate from the fee for standard paid tickets. Organizers must handle refunds themselves, and crypto tickets cannot use registration approval or a waitlist.
Organizer features and fees
The free plan allows unlimited events and unlimited attendees per event, but invitations and newsletter sends have weekly limits. Standard paid tickets on the free plan have a 5% Luma platform fee, plus Stripe processing fees. Upgrading to Luma Plus reduces the Luma platform fee on standard paid tickets to 0%, but Stripe processing fees still apply. The benefit applies only to transactions after activation.
