Coinbase Card is a Visa prepaid debit card from the Coinbase exchange. Purchases draw from your Coinbase account balance. The US card is limited to US citizens or permanent residents who live in the US, excluding Hawaii, so this guide focuses on its eligibility, fees, and limits before you decide whether it fits your needs. See What to know before applying for fees and risks.
What Is Coinbase? Company Background
Coinbase was founded in 2012 by co-founders Brian Armstrong (its current CEO) and Fred Ehrsam. The company listed on Nasdaq on April 14, 2021, under the ticker COIN. Coinbase describes itself as a remote-first company with no headquarters.
According to its second-quarter 2026 financial report, as of June 30, 2026, the platform held $245.9 billion in assets and had 7.6 million monthly transacting users for the quarter. Its website says it serves more than 100 countries.
Its products include the Coinbase app for individual users, Coinbase Prime for institutions, and Coinbase Developer Platform for developers. Coinbase and Circle jointly launched the USDC stablecoin.
Coinbase opened the US card waitlist on October 28, 2020; the card had launched earlier in the UK and Europe. The US card is issued by Pathward and processed by Marqeta. The UK card is issued by Paysafe under a separate program.
One distinction matters: the Coinbase One Card is an Amex credit card, not this product. Coinbase says its Card is not a credit card or a checking or savings account.
